and it’s time for kid’s learn to windsurf camps! North Beach Windsurfing teaches summer windsurfing camps for kids at the Clearwater Community Sailing Center.   The camps are 1 week long and run from 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday.  We have US Sailing certified instructors teaching the kids, so they are guaranteed to have a SAFE and FUN time windsurfing!  All kids, ages 8-16 are welcome and the camps are $250 per person.  You can sign up with the Clearwater Community Sailing Center at their website – www.clearwatercommunitysailing.org or call us at    or send an e-mail with questions!

Summer also means it’s time to travel to windier places than here.  Britt will be off to coach the US Junior Windsurfing Team at the Techno 293 World Championships in France in late July and then will continue on to Singapore where he will be coaching the US Windsurfing representatives at the Youth Olympic Games (http://www.singapore2010.sg/public/whyohgee/en/)  Karen will be heading to San Francisco for the US Windsurfing Nationals – along witha few of the older kids from Britt’s junior team who will be competing in the Formula class there.

The Tampa Bay area is a fantastic place to paddle, with lots of water to explore and sea creatures to view (especially from the vantage of an s.u.p.) so round-up your friends and head to the beach.  Board and paddle rentals are only $50 for three hours or $75 for the whole day and we’ll meet you at the beach with the gear, so you don’t even have to worry about transporting it!  Depending on your interests and your ability level we can steer you to the location that will be best for you. 

If you haven’t tried stand-up-paddling, we also teach lessons.  A one hour private lesson plus and additional hour of practice time is only $70 and if you can find friends to join you, a group lesson is just $45/person.  And once you have spent some time on a paddle board and want to transition to windsurfing by adding a sail, we can teach you that as well!  Call us at 727.656.6569 for more information or to make your reservations.

Maui Sails started using Technora in their formula race sails, and it worked so well that they are now using it in the Ghost XT (pictured at right) wave sail and in a limited release of the Titan.  The Titan XT is one of the lightest weight cambered sails available, but only a few were produced for 2010.  If you want to be one of the few folks to get your hands on this awesome sail – call 727-656-6569 or e-mail us (britt@nbwindsurfing.com) quick to put in your order for a 7.5m or 8.5m!

Severne is also  offering a light weight wave/freestyle sail with the S1, constructed of KS Optic X-ply (a blend of spectra and aramic fibers).  In addition to being light weight, these high tech fabrics are more durable than standard mono-film.  That means you can venture into the waves, even if you’re unsure of your ability to handle the shore break!

On January 21 we had an impromptu RRD demo day with both windsurfing gear and stand-up-paddle boards!  The weather was perfect for trying out all the toys and the lucky folk who were out at Tierra Verde on a breezy Thursday afternoon got to take advantage of the opportunity!  We didn’t remember to pull out the camera until it was a bit dark for pictures – but here are a few “catalog” shots of the great looking boards we got to try.
